We live in a country that is almost always positive about their military. In fact, the military is one of America's last neutral organizations. As a result, most Americans recognize the selfless, patriotic, and sometimes harrowing stories shared in veterans halls and online forums across the country.
Our deep national shame over the way our Vietnam veterans were treated fifty years ago is swinging the pendulum of public opinion in the opposite direction. Because of this, today's veterans are generally placed on a pedestal.
Most soldiers are proud of their service, and many citizens are grateful for their sacrifices. Yet marketing paradigms exist even among veterans; Individuals who, through sheer force of will, have turned their military experience into notoriety and influence.
From the days of actor-turned-actor Audie Murphy, one of the most decorated World War II veterans of all time, to Jennifer Marshall, a post-9/11 Navy veteran and movie-TV star, influences on public opinion and military service. Go hand in hand.
Event Feedback: Stand Up
Now, thanks to new data from VA disability law firm Hill & Ponton, we can see a clearer picture of this growing trend of military influence.
They started by strictly ranking the most popular influencers with social media followings, but then analyzed feedback from those accounts by talking to military families, service members, and those interested in joining. They also looked at search volume data using SEMrush to see where military influencers were going to the various US military branches. If social media can influence everything from elections to the food we eat, it can certainly influence our armed forces.
According to Hill & Ponton, SEMrush offers data for everything from search engine optimization to social media marketing, meaning they were able to use it to see which military branch is currently the most popular online. A search is underway. The map below shows which US states currently show the most online interest in each military branch.
The Space Force had more surveillance than any other military branch. This is due to their newness to the news cycle rather than a desire to engage.

Air Force was a very popular pursuit, especially in South India. Northern states seem to be more interested in the National Guard, while more coastal states seek the Coast Guard. Perhaps these searches reflect those interested in enrolling, although further details of these searches are unknown.
The most popular military podcast in their study was "Military Women." This platform helps share the stories of women who have served and are currently serving in the US military. It was especially popular with Republicans, General Serge and other women.
Serving veterans of all genders, current and former, the Veteran Cafe offers a fun and light-hearted look at military life. About a quarter of their respondents listened to the podcast, but it was especially popular among millennials and Democrat respondents.
A study by Hill and Ponton found that most military vets feel that military influencers are telling a true story or posting about things they feel are relevant. Although not yet served, military influence was found to be encouraging. Considering that spheres of influence aren't always seen in a positive light, it's encouraging to see military vets being held in such high regard online.
Imcom Commander Meets With Service Culture Influencers
These days the word "influencer" has become fodder for the Tik Tok and Instagram crowd to understate a person's popularity. Often, they are justified because the influential space is full of self-help "coaches" and "gurus."
However, today's military influencers use their popularity for different reasons. Rather than seeking fame for the sake of popularity, today's military influencers pay tribute to their fellow soldiers and raise awareness of the social issues that most affect veterans.

While some individual conferences and events may return in 2021, we feel that travel to San Antonio may not be possible, comfortable or practical for many people at this time. We also think that trying to repackage an existing conference as a completely virtual event will lose the quality and experience you've come to expect from MIC.

So we have made the difficult decision to postpone MIC, which will now be held in Las Vegas in 2022. All ticket bookings will remain valid and you will not need to do anything to transfer your tickets.
